Preschool Art: It's the Process, Not the Product Review

I love all of MaryAnn Kohl's books, this being no exception. If you are looking for a book for a preschooler to paint like VanGogh, then this is not the book. If you want a book that has great, fun, easy ideas using common materials, this book is excellent. I noticed the few bad reviews and feel those individuals really do not understand preschool children and how their minds are. Sure, some of the ideas are very simplistic, but for children, the PROCESS of creating is what is important. They may "see" things in their project that adults don't. The foil sculpture--why not? It is fun. My kids loved it, I loved it. Remember, art is in the eye of the beholder.

My children have done many of these projects and are very pleased and proud of their work. The projects increase their creative abilities and allow their imaginations to run wild. And as a mom, I enjoy them just as much.

Preschool Art: It's the Process, Not the Product Overview

Art is a process, not a product. "Preschool Art" contains 200 process-oriented art experiences for children aged 3-6. Using readily available materials, children explore, discover and create open-ended art experiences. There are no adult-made samples to copy - only the imagination of the artist and the materials at hand. Activities range from drawing, painting and sculpture to craft, collage and construction. All the activities are cross-referenced by age, materials needed, amount of preparation time required, type of process - even a recommended time of the year - making it easy to choose the ideal activity to suit your needs.

Wonderful resource! - Laurie - Arkansas
I like art, but I don't know how to teach it. My preschool daughter LOVES drawing and painting, so I picked this up from the library. If you use it like a curriculum, it does take you through basics (like free painting), but in an organized way. It also builds on basics so kids can learn how to use different materials creatively. We did one or two pages every day, and we both love it. I will definitely buy it, especially if we have more kids!

Excellent book! - Kristina L. Ferguson - Campbell. CA
IF you are looking for simple and creative ideas for your preschoolers then this is the book for you! I loved everything in this book and incorpoate at least one idea a week for my class!

basic beginnings with open endings - MaryAnn F. Kohl - Bellingham, WA USA
Preschool Art is meant to be a book of basic art ideas for preschool kids, where the child can begin with a basic concept or process, and then take off in his or her own creative direction. What may seem ordinary to us, is brand new and exciting to preschoolers.
